For the last two years at Holy Comforter, we have sought to reclaim the seasons of Advent and Christmas from the culture of consumerism and materialism that has hijacked them. Joining with other churches around the country, we resolve to buy fewer gifts, to give more relational gifts, and to use some of what we save to build wells in parts of the world where people lack access to clean water.
Last year, we collected a portion of what we saved and gave it to build a clean water well in a small village in Peru. Thanks to our efforts, the 35 people who live in Union Central are alive and well today. We plan to continue to bring clean water to those in need, partnering with our friends at Living Water International. Lack of access to clean drinking water is one of the biggest risks to the health of people in developing nations, but through our generosity and God's blessing, we can eradicate this problem in Peru and around the world.
